Three parts of the skills test
Pre-trip inspection
Review the vehicle components, safety equipment and inspection procedure for your class. Use the current Texas handbook and the vehicle you expect to test in.
Basic control skills
Prepare for controlled vehicle movements and backing. Confirm the test format and vehicle configuration with the assigned site.
Road test
The examiner evaluates how you operate the vehicle in traffic. Confirm the permit, required training records, appointment, vehicle documentation and fees with DPS before you travel.
Find the correct address
A general driver license office and a CDL testing site can have different addresses in the same city. The site shown on your DPS appointment controls where you report.
